I don’t know if you know this, but I am low-key obsessed with the Houston Arboretum. In fact I like to think of myself as the Houston Arboretum wedding photographer simply because of my obsession. I have liked this place long before capturing this wedding, but after, wooooboy! I am obsessed. But enough about me. This blog post is all about the fun, fabulous and gorgeous Megan + Preston!!
These two are self confessed non-traditional when it comes to their wedding. Their favorite things to do together are drink at local breweries, hike and love on their animals! So when it came to planning their wedding, they first wanted to just elope. But then they decided to have a small wedding at the Houston Arboretum and a killer reception at St. Arnold’s Brewery.
Getting Ready at the Sam Houston Hotel
Since the Arboretum doesn’t have a getting ready space for weddings, Megan and Preston got rooms at The Sam Houston Hotel. This hotel is super fun, has a gorgeous banquet hall {where the first look happened} and lots of great light in their rooms. As a wedding photographer, the rooms and light made my heart happy.
Throughout this entire process delicious champagne was sipped and hearty toasts made!
Can we talk about how amazing the invitations from Minted were??
The Ceremony
The ceremony was intimate, with 30ish people invited. The backdrop for the wedding was the lily pond, where turtles lazily swam or rested on logs. For real, I have a photo {not included in this set} of just turtles hanging out. Megan and Preston did all their family portraits before the ceremony because they had a first look. It made their day flow like magic!!
The ceremony included vows they wrote themselves, with funny inside jokes and touching moments relayed on how they knew they wanted to marry the other.
As the unofficial Houston Arboretum wedding photographer, this ceremony site’s simplicity made my heart sing!!
Portraits
Having the backdrop of the Arboretum was freakin magical!! We did a majority of their portraits there and then did a few more at St. Arnold’s, as they had some cool cars and string light fun!
Reception
The reception was low key and totally fun!! Everyone ate a buffet at the picnic tables, drank delicious beer and partied the night away. One special moment was when Megan danced with her father. There was so much love and emotion between them that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
The night ended with a final dance between the couple. It was seriously a touching and sweet send-off of the night!
