5 Ways to Plan and Create TikTok Videos for your Wedding

Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

Let’s not mince words, the home stretch to your wedding day is stressful. You are paying off final balances, taking care of last minute tasks, planning for out of town guests, the list goes on. You know what is fun during this time? Planning your TikTok videos! Picking the music, laughing with your friends over the skits you can do, it is a nice stress reliever. I love how TikTok has made the wedding space more fun and helpful. I know I try to serve helpful tips and inspiration to couples, and I love seeing them post their own tips and fun videos. It is a great community! To help you have the best time with it, here are 5 ways to plan and create TikTok videos for your wedding.

1) Save Inspiration.

Make a spreadsheet of sounds you love, trends you love and save it to a collection. I love putting into searches “wedding trend” or “wedding day” and seeing what pops up. Make a list for all aspects of events you will be going to, from showers and bachelorette parties to the rehearsal dinner and the wedding day. I have seen a lot of couples (and not just the bride) get into this. Get together and have a blast deciding on the fun things you want to do together.wedding couple kiss in the garden of Oheka Castle by Toronto's best wedding photographers Swish and Click Photography

2) Finalize your List.

After you have saved a bunch of videos, you now need to get your list to 5 videos and under for your wedding day. Honestly, I think a good number is 3. There are a lot of moving parts that happen on a wedding day and putting into a timeline 5 10 to 20 minute moments to film a TikTok video will be difficult. I am not saying this to poo poo this, but some weddings I only have 10 minutes to get all my couples portraits and that take priority over a TikTok video from my perspective.

3) Communicate with your Media Team.

I have always found space and time for TikTok video creation on a wedding day. And that is because my couples communicate with me what they want to do. From there, I communicate with my team, so we are prepared to help in anyway we can. I will also be honest with my couples if there isn’t the time in the moment they want for the video, if needed. Also, did you know that I have added filming content on a wedding day for short form video to my base wedding package? Cause I have. I bring an assistant on the wedding day and a lot of the time they are filming BTS, so adding in 3 TikTok videos for my couples isn’t a big deal. And I send over all the cellphone video by the next day so you can start creating on your own. 4) Hire a Content Creator.

Having someone there on your wedding day with a cellphone on a gimble who understands TIkTok will make for the best videos. I have seen some content creators offer upwards of 5 videos from the wedding day. And since they understand the trending sounds and videos, they will be able to make that vision happen quickly. This is important on a wedding day. Wedding days you have a finite amount of time for everything. You should make sure the planner and the content creator touch base before your wedding day to ensure what you are requesting to do will work.

5) Have Fun with It

The final tip on how to create TikTok videos for your wedding is this one. If you are over thinking these videos and not having fun, then why do it? Take the pressure off and be excited for the videos when they happen. Remember that the wedding day goes by so fast. Don’t stress over a TikTok video. Instead, focus on soaking in the amazing moments you are having with your best friends, family and your new spouse!

A Few Extra Tips for Content Creation:

  • When doing a lip syncing video, have another phone play the sound while you record on a different phone
  • Remember: your camera quality is better when filmed outside an app
  • Bring the video you filmed with your camera into a TikTok app like InShot or VideoShot
