As I drove to Hotel Zaza in the Museum District for Allison and Jared’s wedding, the sky was ominous. Rain had been threatening all day and when I arrived at the hotel, the skies opened up! Of course I wasn’t too phased, I had been dreaming about this wedding with dinosaurs for so long. Allison and Jared postponed their wedding for a year because of, you guessed it, Covid. But it was worth the wait! This cat-loving, dinosaur obsessed couple threw a heck of a wedding and everyone had a blast, including this Houston wedding photographer! Geologist Wedding with Dinosaurs
This geologist wedding was able to happen when Allison and Jared met at geology summer field camp. That’s right! These two loved dinosaurs, even back in 2009. So it is fitting they they both became geologists. Jared and Allison love cooking together, traveling together and entertaining at their house…oh and they love their cats! It should be no surprise that these two went to Big Bend National Park for their honeymoon. I feel like they probably geeked out while there.
But back to this gorgeous geologist wedding. Allison and Jared got ready at Hotel Zaza in the Houston Museum District. They both got beautiful rooms, which isn’t surprising, since Hotel Zaza is known for their rooms. Allison’s gown that she bought from Marry Go Round Bridal is a personal favorite of mine, as it has a structured bodice but a flowy skirt. It feels as grand as the venue she and Jared chose to get married at. Since it was pouring down rain, Allison and Jared did their first look inside Hotel Zaza. A room filed with beautiful chandeliers and lined with windows, it made for the perfect setting.
The original plan was to walk to the Museum of Natural Science for the wedding, but the weather made us go to plan B: drive there. And when we arrived, this Houston wedding photographer got giddy! We were greeting by Stephanie from Peachy Events, who was making sure the day was being handled flawlessly. There were so many cool dinosaur displays and we had free reign to do photos almost anywhere. Which made the obvious choice: do family formals with the dinosaurs. In fact, do as many photos as we can with the dinosaurs. When you are at a geologists wedding, you incorporate them into everything! Some of my favorite moments with the dinosaurs: the couple’s portraits, the first dance, the cake cutting (with a cake from Cakes by Gina, which was delicious) and then open dancing!
