Yellow is one of the colors for a wedding that is challenging to incorporate. It’s one of those colors that can go from bright, warm and inviting to too much if you’re not careful. I find that because yellow can become overwhelming so quickly, most couples avoid integrating the color into their wedding. Which is why I am writing about how to incorporate yellow into your wedding in a bougie way!
Where does Yellow go Ary?
Yellow is not one of the colors that a lot of couples naturally gravitate to, from what I have seen. If a couple does want yellow, especially here in the south, it’s put in with sunflowers but not in a meaningful way. I get it, it’s a color that is tricky!
Some shades of yellow are too light and get lost against the white of the gown. When it is too light, it gets washed out and is a struggle to capture properly, from a photographers stand point. On the other end of the spectrum, some yellows can have too much orange in it, making it hard to capture and coming across harsh. Too much brown, and the yellow can come across as dingy and drab. And I bet as you read this you think “that’s it no yellow for me, Christine!” and that would be a shame! Because, when done right, yellow can be dynamic!
How to Incorporate Yellow into your Wedding in a Bougie Way
The Bouquet
One of the keys to incorporating yellow into your wedding in a bougie way, is to have various shades mixed together. If you look at the bouquet by Intrigue Designs below, there are bright yellows and brown yellows, mixed with white flowers and greenery. This creates dimension and depth to the yellow tones and overall look. Plus, the cascading look of the wedding bouquet gives it that bougie feel. I love how the wedding bouquet pops against the wedding gown from Weddings by Debbie. The whole look is mesmerizing!
Adding Other Colors
When thinking about how to incorporate yellow into your wedding in a bougie way, a great way to add dimension to the color is to add complimentary colors to it. Creams, blushes shades and greens all help round out the color. If you look at this table setting below you can see the darker yellow shades mixing with the cream shades in the florals by Jackie Trejo Floral and menu by Model Paper Design. By having these subtle hues mixed in, it elevates the yellow shade from being harsh in its mustard tone, to being the part that adds dimension to the table setting. It’s seriously inspiring!!
You can see the cream shades at work in a totally different way with the invitation suite created by Pretty Written Things down below. The lettering looks like a metallic gold, and the styling board underneath is a creamy velvet. Add onto it the perfume bottle and extra florals, and it makes the yellows rich and inviting…ha ha literally!
Add Metallics to the Mix
Adding gold to various shades of yellow is one of my favorite things to capture. When you look at the table setting below, you can see how the gold from the cutlery and charging plates adds a bougie feel to the yellows in the floral centerpiece. I also love how the light grey in the linens helps balance the color. I love the clear wedding glasses, they seem to mirror and reflect the items on the table. Heather Benge Events did an amazing job with this entire setup!
