What goes into a nautical themed engagement session? Lots of creativity, cute props, outfits and a killer location! Added bonus? They brought their adorable pups to the session, wearing a bow and a sash! We were lucky that all the locations we used had recovered nicely from Hurricane Harvey, as we were worried that the places would still be flooded. Luckily, this was not the case!
This nautical themed engagement session also has small references to Paris, where they got engaged. A big shout out to Laced with Grace for helping with the ideas for this engagement session, it gave all the images a seamless, romantic feel.
Sea Star Base
The session started off at a Sea Star Base, that has stunning views of Offatts Bayou, in Galveston, Texas. Sarah and Russell kept their outfits simple, but classy, wearing shades of white and blue, which were perfect around all that water! We did some beautiful pictures by the boats, some walking with the pups and a few dancing pictures. Sarah and Russell brought a picnic basket filled with a baguette and drinks, which they broke out once we got the the Chris Craft boat pictures.
Chris Craft
The Chris Craft boats have a special place in the hearts of Sarah and Russell, so it made sense to end the session with them floating off into the sunset, with them and their pups. It also ties in nicely to their wedding, which will be happening in the Dominican this fall. Sarah and Russell changed into a more evening-look, for this set of pictures, which added a lot of great contrast from the initial set!
The Ring
Straight from Sarah: “the ring is a custom design by the Russ, and made by Dickinson by Design. The ring represents our love of the islands, and travel. The center stone is a 1.52 carat brilliant cut diamond, laid in 14K white gold, with .5 carats of sapphire stones to represent the ocean. Sapphire also happens to be the birthstone of Sarah. The band and surrounding gold around the center stone is twisted so the stones are laid in and it looks like waves. The custom ring process took about 3 months to build, including on waiting for several different types of Sapphires from different regions to make sure tho stones looked just right. We settled on stones imported from SRI Lanka.”
Honestly, what is more nautical themed than an engagement ring that is designed to look like it has waves in it? Sarah and Russell were so great to capture, and I am so excited for their Dominican wedding this fall!!
