Sam Houston Park was the perfect location for an enchanting engagement session with Alyssa and Kai…especially since they wanted an “Enchanted” vibe to it. And I love that this couple was so free and fun when they danced and laughed and were wonderfully silly together. Alyssa was actually a musical theater major and I love how expressive she is!
Downtown Houston Engagement Session
The best thing about Sam Houston Park is that it’s in Downtown Houston – technically at The Heritage Society! It’s close to Houston City Hall and there’s a gorgeous pond, beautiful trees, and even a dreamy set of steps. Unfortunately, Alyssa didn’t bring a stuffed chipmunk to sing to, but I think their pictures turned out pretty “Enchanted” anyway! And of course we gave a nod to the couple’s favorite movie, The Princess Bride.
Alyssa and Kai have actually known each other since junior high! They sat at the same lunch table and were fast friends. These two have such similar tastes in books, shows, and movies and they love nothing more than curling up on the couch and just being together and making each other laugh. Plus they love going to trivia night at Plucker’s and even have a plaque on the wall! Alyssa: “My mom has commented several times when she has stayed with us that she would be falling asleep and would constantly hear us laughing from our bedroom over the dumbest stuff, but it always reminds her how dorky and much in love we are.”
The Proposal
Kai: “It had been a long time coming, (hence the #BoutTimeBrewers) but I wanted to make it as special as possible because I thought she deserved as much. So, when I got wind that her family wanted to take a trip to New Orleans, one of her favorite places in the world, I decided to do it. Early in the trip, we headed to the Café du Monde for some beignets and coffee, and previously unknown to Alyssa, I got a caricature artist to meet us there on a little bench just outside of the café. (We love caricatures and try to get one done at least once a year.) After a long struggle of her being too selfless to take up the whole group’s time, she agreed to get one done.
Then I started pulling different heirlooms from throughout our relationship out of a bag until she was covered in them. The jig was up at this point, and I may have rambled too long, but she said yes! And the artist turned his easel around to reveal a pre-drawn caricature of the both of us, with me kneeling down with a ring and her covered in the memorabilia. Lots of happy crying and phone calls later, we resumed our very fun trip with a new feeling of excitement for the future.”
